Good Samaritan describes how he foiled Bronx toddler’s kidnap attempt

A great Samaritan stated he was able to slug a deranged creep who tried to kidnap a 3-year-old Bronx boy — and adopted him till cops confirmed up and nabbed him.

Juan Carlos Cavellero, 27, was getting fuel in East Tremont on Monday afternoon when he noticed Santiago Salceda, 27, seize little Lilianna Repka whereas she walked along with her grandmother and two siblings and take off.

“I jumped out of my automobile to attempt to beat him up,” Cavellero, who lives in Manhattan, informed The Publish on Wednesday. “They have been screaming, ‘Assist! Name the cops!’ I say to them, ‘Why you screaming? Name the cops!’

“I say to him, ‘Go away the little child alone,” he recalled. “He says, ‘She has issues. I’ve to take her.’ I say, ‘You’re gonna have issues.’ He says, ‘What you gonna do?’ He noticed that I used to be gonna punch him. He begins working.”

Cavellero stated he adopted the would-be kidnapper “for like three automobile lengths,” when the person noticed him following him and put the toddler down.

“‘I don’t need issues,’” he stated the suspect stated. “I see the particular person is loopy.”

Cavellero stated he known as cops and adopted the creep for about six blocks.

“He noticed me comply with him,” he stated. “He placed on darkish glasses like he’s any individual else. I noticed an undercover cop automobile. ‘Arrest this man. He tried to steal a bit of child.’”

Salcedo was arrested and arraigned Tuesday evening on tried kidnapping and illegal imprisonment fees and ordered held on $15,000 bail.

The decide agreed to his lawyer’s request that he obtain “medical therapy and psychological well being companies.” He’s due again in courtroom on Friday.

“If I don’t comply with him, no person goes to arrest him,” Cavellero stated. “If he doesn’t get arrested, he’ll strive to try this with one other child.”
